ACROBATICS EVERYDAY

not a lot of hubbub since last week. some rad shit went down at KUCI. check MYSTERIOUS RAINBOW for info on THAT.

in concert news, finalizing that DARK MEAT show for the 11th of may. it’ll be a good’n (assuming it happens…). working on AWESOME stuff for the summer and fall too.

everyone’s been asking about beirut, and for good reason. i haven’t answered everyone because i haven’t been sure. but i think i can say with some confidence that it can’t happen. there isn’t the space or the financial means for it to happen. that’s to say; i would need at least 600-700 people to come at a ticket price that is higher then what i am comfortable with; as i can’t guarantee this, i can’t arrange for the show. if someone knows how to easily acquire upwards of $10k or more for the purpose of putting together a great concert, shoot me an email.
i hate saying things can’t happen when it feels like that which is stopping them from occurring is wholly a choice (the band’s). but c’est la vie. there’s tons of other amazing stuff coming and i promise it’ll help take your mind off of the lack of beirut. there are still tickets available for the los angeles show.

in better news, my favorites AKRON/FAMILY will end their mind-melting conquest of california this friday amidst mammoths and monkeys at the LOS ANGELES NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM as part of the FIRST FRIDAYS program. THE DODOS will open, and perform as part of the akak music troupe. it is not to be missed. i hope to see you theeeereeeeeee.

the show yesterday was so good. all the bands were killer. if you left early you missed a dance JAM with the muslims! everyone was grooving. it was awesome and lovely.

in other news, we have had a couple awesome instudio performances over at KUCI for our (brian and i) radio show MYSTERIOUS RAINBOW lately, and i’m looking forward to at least one more in the near future. check that page for updates on when you can tune in and hear them (and who they areeee).

here’s a brand new superbanger from our friends PATTERN IS MOVEMENT.

“Because I’m Walking!”

Filed under: interwebz — vivian @ 6:16 pm

The Internet is a treasure chest of wonderful things.

I would like to direct your attention to that lil gem above. It is food that has taken the shape of its container. There are, like, TONS MORE (i.e. 8 more).

Amusing? Yes. Frivolous? Absolutely! Amazing? Totes amazing.

On an unrelated note, I was walking around UCI today trying to capture stylish people for a different blog, and someone finally said “no.” That is not the interesting part. The interesting part was that his excuse was “No, because I’m walking.”

Hey Professor, sorry I didn’t do the 20-page paper. I’m walking! Hey honey, I can’t marry you. I’m walking!

CONCERT SUNDAY = SUCCESS
if you came, you are a shining star and i love you.
if you played capture the flag with us and the mae shi despite the 100 degree weather, you are a shining star and i love you.

there are some great things on the horizon. there always are.

at peet’s coffee here at the university center there are only a few outlets, and they are by the ‘rear’ entrance. at this entrance, they have one of those contraptions above the door that blows air brusquely when the door is opened and then shuts off once it has been closed. on numerous occasions however, the thing does not shut off regardless of the state of the door, and therefore ceaselessly blows relatively cold air at everything in the vicinity. forget for a second that it is broken. what is its purpose in any case? i don’t see why it has to blow air at the incoming/outgoing customer. it’s like mild physical assault. i don’t understand.

show next wednesday!
CRASH NORMAL // FRANCE
THE MUSLIMS // SAN DIEGO
WOUNDED LION // LOS ANGELES
SOME DAYS // LOS ANGELES
@ PHOENIX GRILLE // UCI
7pm | $5 | ALL AGES/ALL WELCOME

here’s a pretty picture you can post places:

apparently i broke the forums when i tried to protect them from spambots last week. i’ve now not only fixed that problem, but updated the software! it looks extra pretty. so if you tried to register recently and the website broke, you can do it now!

here’s a song that i dig by mr rafter roberts. he’s playing at KOHOUTEK this saturday, along with the best live band in the world, AKRON/FAMILY. also playing are health and bad dudes, and some others.

just kidding but how great would that be.

SUNDAY. picnic, aldrich park, 12pm. concertparty 1pm on at phoenix grille. MAE SHI! there’s a lot of rad stuff coming up. keep checking back.

i am so into these songs right now:

[Alicja Trout - I Can’t Tell You]

[Alicja Trout - Mississippi Monster]

in fact, just pick up her album ‘13 songs not right for my other bands to play.’ it’s all killer. you’d never realize what a badass rocknroller alicja trout is from these two tracks, also.

SEE YOU SUNDAYYYYYYYYYYY

COLE MOLDY MILNER AND DAVID JABERI ROCK IRVINE

Filed under: concert news, mp3s — sam @ 2:56 am

wednesday was the kind of day you keep thinking about the following day, like ‘man that was great and fun and relaxing and every other good thing in the world.’ emily and myself were lucky enough to spend (a good portion of the day) with two wonderful awesome fantastic people from portland and arcata/eureka, ca respectively. they played on emily’s radio show. it was sweet. and then on a moment’s notice, we organized ACROBATICS EVERYDAY #4, a house show in woodbridge. some people came and it was the best night ever. this is some of the worst writing i have ever done but for some reason i can’t really think of better ways to put it. we played rock band, they played rock songs, we played rock songs, we ate guacamole and hummus and m&ms, and had iced tea. we had group heart-to-hearts. we shared stories of our youth. it was beautiful and timeless and i totally encourage everyone (okay maybe only 10 people, it is a pretty small room) to come out next time. the house shows are probably gonna be far and few in between but they are something to cherish and love.

here is one of my favorite ever songs: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mryzgk04oji  [archers of loaf - white trash heroes]
